Part-Time Church Accountant

Northeast Columbia church is seeking a Church Accountant on a part-time basis (approximately 30 hours per week).  Excellent work environment.  Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Maintain donor contribution records and deposits, record stock and non-cash gifts, issue quarterly and year-end contribution statements to donors, acknowledge memorial gifts, prepare giving analysis as needed, and so on.
  • Maintain general ledger function for the church, including bank account reconciliations, preparation of monthly financial statements, analyze accounts as needed, assist in budgeting process, and track project costs.
  • Process and pay accounts payable, record EFT transfers for payroll taxes, fees, and health insurance, reconcile various credit accounts, issue 1099s, etc.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly and biweekly payroll, issue quarterly and annual payroll tax reports, maintain personnel files and vacation records, ensure accuracy and completeness of paperwork for new hires, maintain records for medical, life, long-term disability insurance, and retirement.
  • Handle cemetery administration, including maintaining financial records, paying expenses as needed, and so on.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position reports to Church Administrator and may supervise a Financial Assistant.

Preferred qualifications include an accounting degree and previous controllership experience.  CPA and knowledge of non-profit organizations ideal.  Must be a motivated self-starter with skills in problem solving and effective communication.  Experience or willingness to lead financial software conversions helpful.  Candidate should have at least intermediate skills in Excel and Word.  Prior experience in ShelbyNext software would be ideal.
